My name is David Michael Steinberg. I’ve been incarcerated for over 23 years and I’m currently housed at California Correctional Institution. During my time inside I’ve spent a lot of years drawing and developing my skills as an artist.

I can draw just about anything, but what I mainly focus on are portraits of people and animals, especially cats and dogs. That’s where most of my experience is and where I’ve spent the most time improving my work. I’ve done drawings for friends and family over the years, and it’s something I take seriously and put real effort into.

Like a lot of guys in prison, it can be easy to talk about ideas without follow-through. That’s not who I am. When I commit to something I do my best to put my stamp on it, meet my obligations, and follow through on what I say I’m going to do.

Art gives me a way to create something positive and be part of something bigger than myself.
